2005 Glen Eldon Dry Bore Shiraz
"There's plenty of oak here, fed into concentrated mixed berry fruits… I like the palate shape; plenty of sweet fruit flavour, good potential in the riper end of the spectrum."

"A blend of super-premium Barossa (Glen Eldon Black Springs) and Heathcote (Munari Ladys Pass) Shiraz may seem unlikely but this blend is absolutely seamless. It's got it all: vibrant, impenetrable black hue, dense black fruits, dark chocolate oak and liquorice. Give it a long rest in the cellar."
Tyson Stelzer - WBM100

" Shiny Clean and sheeny, a touch of blossom and orange to begin, fairly rich, round and unctuous, leaning towards a touch heavy, though with an enticing capacity to raise an appetite for a good chicken Soup or master stock Asian poultry dish"
Tony Love - The Advertiser August 2009
"The First release of this exceedingly limited wine (120 dozen) is amass with rich, sweet black cherry and plum fruit and firm oak. This is one for the cellar, thanks to its great concentration, persistent finish and beautifully balanced, grippy tannin structure."
Tyson Stelzer - WBM 100

Deep Crimson, Voluminous berry aromas lead into a sumptuous palate with blackberry and blood plum to the fore; the tannins are ripe fine, the oak well integrated.
James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion 2009
The Wine Advocate 2009 - Jay Miller
Excellent colour and clarity; although only medium - bodied, has considerable intensity and complexity, with rippling red and black fruits, and fine tannins on the long finish; the acidity, too, is perfect.
James Halliday 2010 Australian Wine Companion
Strong colour; full bodied, has good structure and intensity to the blackberry, licorice and dark chocolate flavours, with no confection characters whatsoever; great surge on the finish.
James Halliday - 2010 Australian Wine Companion
Excellent colour; a perfectly ripened wine, with strong blackcurrant, cassis and cedar flavours, the tannins lined up in precise support, oak likewise.
James Halliday - 2010 Australian Wine Companion
Crisp, youthful and tightly structured; spotlessly clean and pure, and has all the prerequisites for long life; give it five years to blossom which it will.
James Halliday - 2010 Australian Wine Companion
Good hue and depth; substantial medium - to full-bodied wine, with a potent mix blackberry, plum and blackcurrant; will develop; low price for a wine to be cellared.
James Halliday - 2010 Australian Wine Companion
Has good varietal character, structure and weight, ranging through blackcurrant, cassis, herb and black olive, tannins and oak balance.
James Halliday - 2010 Australian Wine Companion
Dense, inky colour; mouthfilling, luscious plum, black cherry and chocolate; harmonious and supple tannins; intense and long; not the least heavy. Barossa/Heathcoat.
James Halliday - 2010 Australian wine companion
"It is a glass-coating purple colour with notes of pain grille, pencil lead, scorched earth, black raspberry, and black currants. This leads to a medium to full-bodied Cabernet with a smooth texture, sweet fruit, well-integrated tannin and very good length. There is enough sturcure for several years of further development and it will drink well through to 2025."
Robert M Parker Jr.
The Wine Advocate, October 2007
"The wine is saturated purple colour offering up an alluring bouquet of violets, saddle leather, blackberry, and blueberry muffin. This leads to a stylish, racy Shiraz with a sense of elegance. Nicely balanced, it has generous ripe fruit, a smooth texture, good focus, and a long finish."
Robert M Parker, Jr.
The Wine Advocate, October 2007
The 2004 Shiraz “Black Springs ” Reserve spent three years in a combination of new French and second use American oak. Yields from the 30-60 years old vineyards were a tiny 0.5 – 1.0 tons per acre. The nose reveals aromas of smoky wood, scorched earth, lavender, leather, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. On the palate it is nearly port-like with a plush texture, layered, super-concentrated flavors, and great length. This impressive Shiraz will age for 6-8 years and drink well through 2030.
Robert Parker
The Wine Advocate October 2007
“Intense cassis and blackcurrant fruit; a very long palate with silky fruit, good tannins and fine oak. If this wine was previously labeled ‘Dry Bore’ it has improved out of sight.”
James Halliday
Australian Wine Companion 2008
"The tiniest vintage on record for this small producer, there is but a drop of this wine to go around, and at this price it will dry up in no time. Spicy lime juice flavours, hints of nettles and lantana, icy mint tips and fine, minerally aciditiy make this an edgy style with a load of street appeal."
Tyson Stelzer
WMB 100 June 2008
“A potent, powerful bouquet with lime, herbs and a touch of spice; the firm palate has mineral and lime running through the long finish; will flower with time in bottle”
James Halliday
Australian Wine Companion 2008
“This full-bodied Shiraz exhibits a beautiful texture as well as loads of blackberry and cassis fruit with hints of pepper and chocolate…”
Robert M Parker, Jr
The Wine Advocate - October 31st 2006
Intensely aromatic nose shows a fresh red berry personality with seductive notes of smoke and incense… A suave, creamy and utterly seductive shiraz that’s drinking awfully well already.

Anyone who thinks that all Australian Shiraz is alike would have a hard time making the case after tasting these wines. Representing the best of those Harvey Steiman has reviewed in the past few weeks, they include some that seduce with ultra ripe flavours and others that veer toward jazzier, brighter characters.
What they share, however, is a real sense of refinement and elegance. These are polished, seamless red wines that would add grace to any occasion.
Firm in texture, this dense Shiraz shows a savoury edge of meat and herb to the back fruit flavours, finishing with a licorice note. The tannins have some grip. Best after 2008.

“A knock-out effort…a French styled personality, full-bodied and plenty of texture and richness. This is beauty to enjoy..’

fine tannins; a long future.”
James Halliday
Australian Wine Companion 2008
Spicy red and dark berry flavours are impressively precise and nicely framed by fine-grained tannins. Develops a chewy texture with air and finishes bright and fresh, with repeating mineral and floral pastille notes and impressive persistence.
