Glen Eldon Old Vine Series Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Rating: 95             Drink By: 2040                     Price: $100.00

Wine Companion tasting note. James Halliday – Published on 03 Aug 2016

Dense black fruits and ripe tannins of the full-bodied palate are exactly what the dark purple-crimson colour and heady/earthy aromas lead you to expect. It has a mountain of extract to feed off for decades to come.

Glen Eldon Old Vine Series Barossa Shiraz 2012

Rating: 97             Drink By: 2047                     Price: $100.00

The colour is still deep and dense, the bouquet and palate logical follow-ons. Perfectly ripened, savoury/spicy/licorice nuances underlie layers of rounded, supple black fruits. The label alcohol seems true to all aspects of the palate, giving the wine great longevity. A testament to a great vintage.

Glen Eldon Old Vine Series Barossa Shiraz Grenache 2012

Rating: 95             Drink By: 2027                     Price: $100.00

Seems to have the black cherry/blackberry of Eden Valley Shiraz, and no confection has come through ex the Grenache, once again Eden Valley? Dark, bitter chocolate also lurks in the background.

Glen Eldon Reserve Eden Valley Riesling 2015

Rating: 96             Drink By: 2027                     Price: $50.00

Ratchets up intensity and length, otherwise walking in the footsteps of its cheaper varietal sibling. Curiously, I’m not sure its life will be longer: is the acidity lower, or is it partially masked by the richness of the fruit flavours?

Glen Eldon Eden Valley Riesling 2015

Rating: 95             Drink By: 2025                     Price: $20.00

The highly floral bouquet is followed by a palate of purity and precision, with a palate feel unique to Glen Eldon, as if an artist had delicately painted the tongue with fruit-sweet lime juice, the focus then shifting to minerally acidity.
